MAKING HISTORY
Thursday 15th May
10am – 5.00pm
Lakeside Arts Centre, Nottingham
Who tells our stories?
Who creates our histories?
Who’s telling the truth?
To complement Lakeside Arts Centre’s production of Smile by Nottingham playwright Stephen Lowe, Theatre Writing Partnership is pleased to present this exciting one-day event exploring how journalists, photographers and theatre makers present the world at large. Do we, their audience, believe what we are presented with? With so much digital technology at our fingertips are the images on our screens and stages fact, fiction or art?
The day will start with fascinating presentations from journalists, photographers and playwrights with ample opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion. Following lunch, you’ll take in a matinee performance of Smile, which will be followed by a ten minute reading of My Boy, a short response to the play by local writer Laura Lomas. The day will close with a discussion drawing together all the themes raised during the day with panellists including TWP Director Kully Thiarai and playwright Stephen Lowe.
Making History is a must for anyone with an interest in creating theatre and art which responds to political situations and representations of the world today.
Tickets for Making History are just £20 and include refreshments, lunch and a ticket to the matinee of Smile. Places are limited so book your place now by calling Lakeside Box Office on 0115 846 7777.
