Theatre Writing Partnership is a pioneering new writing organisation that started its life in February 2001.

Unique to the East Midlands region, it was set up to enable a greater creative collaboration on the development of new theatre writing across its producing theatres (Derby Playhouse, Leicester Haymarket, New Perspectives, Nottingham Playhouse and Royal and Derngate Theatres, Northampton).

The work we have done includes:

2007

August: Momentum Festival 2007; Double Bill production of The Execution of Damiens by Declan Keen, directed by Sarah Francoise and Adel Al-Salloum and Three Short Plays from Africa by Moussa Diagana, Maissa Bey and Rodrigue Norman, directed by Karena Johnson

June: Rehearsed readings of The Twisted Plait by Carol Leeming and Jerking the Chicken by Shirley Burgess


2006

August: Momentum Young Writers’ Festival 2006; Production of Earl of Mo’Bay, by Leah Chillery, directed by Esther Richardson

May: Production and tour of Natural Breaks and Rhythms, by Julius Ayodeji, directed by Dani Parr

January: TWP is set up as an independent company and charity


2005

December: Classroom Playwrights (twenty plays by year nine writers from Leicester)

September: Out Loud season of play readings at Nottingham Playhouse (The Woods, by Jesper Halle, translated by Laura Lomas and The Summer Book, by Tove Jansson, adapted by Emma Rosoman)

August: Momentum Young Writers’ Festival 2005 (headliners: A Background Noise, by Laura Lomas, directed by Giles Croft - Sam’s Game, by Jake Brunger, directed by Indhu Rubasingham - Random Acts, by Leah Chillery, directed by Steven Luckie - Samuel’s Head on My Table, by Declan Keen, directed by Matt Aston)

March: Satin ‘n’ Steel, written by Amanda Whittington and directed by Esther Richardson (produced by Nottingham Playhouse and Bolton Octagon in association with TWP)


2004

September: start of the Momentum project and TWP wins the Peggy Ramsay Award

February: Season of Courage, six short plays produced at Nottingham Playhouse and Royal and Derngate Northampton (writers: Simon Bent, Dipo Agboluaje, Andy Barrett, Stephen Lowe, Jonzi D, Justin Butcher), alongside Mother Courage, adaptation by Dipo Agboluaje

2002

October: Cold Turkey, a festival of short plays at Derby Playhouse

May: Get Shortie season of short plays by Sue Townsend, Amanda Whittington, Jonathan Hall
